“Once” won’t be enough

We rented the movie “Once” last night – it was wonderful! It’s been a while since I was touched this much by a film (early last year, to be precise – the movie then was “Ushpizin“).

For those who haven’t seen it, “Once” is an independent Irish movie about a busker (street musician) and what happens over a week or so of his life – meeting a girl and cutting a demo CD, basically. That’s what *happens*, anyway… what it’s *about* is love, music and commitment – and the value of being true to yourself and living with integrity. This is a movie that will touch you, and stay with you, long after the credits roll (as will the music – the stars are both singer-songwriters in real life).

And also — do you choose to follow the muse, or the music? I have also wanted to have both … and to have to choose can tear your soul in two.

Speaking of commitment, The Guy is Glen Hansard — who also appears in “The Commitments”!

Oo, I hadn’t thought that aspect of it yet – thanks! I’m sure I’ll be watching it again, though.
