We remember.

early light
cold rain
troop carriers can come no closer
run like hell for the beach shore
Down down down! Crawl like they taught you
gun emplacements booming
answer the covering fire
shells splashing all around
kicking up wet sand
head for the bunker, rifle ready
over the top
one gun down

a trip to the beach

Want to know something strange? My fiance & I’s first date was on D-Day, and we became engaged on Pearl Harbor Day. So we’ll never forget either of those dates!
Hopefully we can get a wedding date that’s more propitious.
